![]() |
| TENERIFE |
Free Solo or with harness and rope, the fantastic lava cliffs and climbing gardens offer lots of fun for every mountaineer and climber.
With numerous climbing tours of different degrees of difficulty at your disposal and a climate that is perfect for climbing all fans of climbing and mountaineering will be perfectly happy.
These climbing areas are so special because of the rock of the volcanic island and the sea, which causes not only the fantastic climate but also offers a wonderful view.
Wheter short tours or those taking such a long time that they include an overnight stay in a tent, you will remember each tour for a long time - maybe it is even an adventure you will never forget.
Especially from the degree of difficulty V up, there are lots of different opportunities and tours.
However, beginners are recommended to take a beginners' course before their first tour.
One of the best-known climbing areas is Guia de Isora in the south-west, from where you can enjoy the above-mentioned view of the sea and even to the neighbouring islands. The tour is very adventurous, not only because of the gorge with overhanging ledges but also the rock face that measures several hundred metres.
Another exciting area is Cañadas in the centre of Tenerife.
Those who want to go on a climing tour here, should realize that the rock is extraordinary angular and that you have to be very careful.
Unexperienced climbers should choose easier tours, e. g. those in Roques de García (La Catredral). There are about 20 different climbing tours from easy to moderately difficult, very close to the Teide.
The climbing area Arico lies more in the south and offers more than 100 tours.
As you can see, it is really worth bringing your climbing equipment with you in addition to suncream, swimwear and walking boots. Even those who have been climbing for many years describe climbing in Tenerife as an unique experience.
TENERIFE - SPORT HOLIDAYS - FISHING IN TENERIFE
Tenerife is a paradise for fishermen!
Tenerife is a paradise for fishermen. Of course, in Tenerife you fish exclusively in the sea. Normally, the fishermen are sitting on the pier or on a rock with their fishing rods.
But there are not only locals. Also holiday-makers get themselves a fishing rod (some bring their own with them) and enjoy the fascination of fishing here uncomplicatedly. Take out your fishing rod, look for a nice place - here we go! That makes the fisherman's heart beat faster.
Fishermen looking for the perfect holiday destination for the whole family should come to Tenerife. Fishing while spending time with your familiy is possible in so many ways, e. g. by renting a ship or spending a day at the beach. The children play in the sand and the wife enjoys the sun while the men live their passion for fishing. You can spend such a day e. g. at the beaches of Los Gigantes, Playa San Juan, Los Roques, El Médano, Playa Tejita and Playa Abades, to name only a few in the south.
The sea in the north of Tenerife is a bit rougher, but also here, in many coastal towns, you can see fishermen sitting on the pier in the evening.
The best fishing lures are natural ones, e. g. mackerel stripes, mashed sardines with dough, pieces of squids and crustaceans. You should also find out about protected species, as there are always added new ones. If you catch a fish of a protected species, you may pay a huge fine.
For the first few days on the island, it is worth taking a guide who shows you everything and maybe mentions a few special places. Another possibility is to ask locals. Especially local fishermen are happy when you are interested, even if you don't speak spanish - you can talk with gestures.
f you decide to rent a boat, you should make sure that you have an appropriate fishing rod at your disposal, as some fishes, e. g. tuna, weigh more than smaller ones. It may also happen, that you catch a small shark on the open sea.
It is worth fishing at night, too, as some fishes come to the boats, baited by the remainung lures. Furthermore, you should inform yourself about additional offers, as on some boats you can only get drinks and no food.

All in all, Tenerife is a wonderful holiday destination, as the whole family will be satisfied. If you have a holiday apartment directly at the sea for example, you can look for a good place to go fishing by foot. But also fincas are suitable for relaxing holidays. Normally, there is a barbecue on a finca, so you can relax and have a barbecue in the evening by the fire after successful fishing.
Interesting for those who want to rent a boat is, that the fastest fish can reach a speed of 56km/h under water. That is the Mako Shark. If you like to eat fish after fishing, you can go to one of the innumerous fishing restaurants. Alltogether, Tenerife is known as an El Dorado for hobby and professional fishermen, as there are more than 500 fish species.
Our tip: Don't forget your sun creme!!! It is indispensable, especially when you spend a long day on the boat or the beach.

WINTER IN THE CANARY ISLANDS

Each and every one of the 7 islands that make up the Canaries are an irresistible temptation for travellers at any time of year, but in winter in Europe, they’re in a league all of their own. The average annual temperature is more than 20ºC (in fact, UNESCO has classified the microclimate in Morgan, on Gran Canaria, as the best in the world). And it’s precisely for this reason that each year, large numbers of Europeans choose this archipelago as their winter holiday destination.
The Canary Islands offer visitors almost 1,500 kilometres of coast and countless options for enjoying their sunshineand privileged climate. From the vast white sandy beaches of Fuerteventura and Tenerife, to the small coves that nestle at the foot of the cliffs on the islands of La Gomera and El Hierro; or from the exotic landscapes formed by the dunes of Gran Canaria to the volcanic sand beaches of Lanzarote and La Palma.
Yet there’s much more to the Canary Islands than just beaches: visitors can explore picturesque towns, admire breathtaking landscapes and take part in unique local festivities. Gran Canaria offers visitors the chance to experience ‘rural Gran Canaria’, with outstanding nature trails that wind their way through inland towns and villages. On Tenerife you can visit Mount Teide, listen to a concert of traditional Isa and Folia music, observe the Guanche mummies in the Museum of Nature and Man, or tour the large Botanic Gardens in Puerto de la Cruz.
Tenerife and its Plaza del Charco is a great way to see in the New Year; here locals eat their lucky grapes while watching a spectacular fireworks display before dancing the night away in the streets to the sounds of local bands and mobile discos. Although the Canary Islands’ greatest celebration of all is undoubtedly its Carnival – especially on the two largest islands, Tenerife and Gran Canaria – which takes place in February. An authentic explosion of fantasy, colour and an exciting atmosphere that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.
In other words, the Canary Islands boast an extensive and varied leisure offer at any time of year. Its climate, natural environment and the open, friendly nature of its inhabitants are its greatest attractions. So come on, take a break from your chilly cities and enjoy winter in the Canary Islands!
